The Cayman Islands is a British territory and is made up of three islands: Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. I am focusing on the largest island, Grand Cayman. The island is 76 square miles. George Town, located on Grand Cayman, is the capital of the Cayman islands and the city is a popular Caribbean cruise port. Below I break down some of my favorite things about the island.
- Seven Mile Beach- I am a beach lover and I love nothing more than a long beach that I can walk along. Seven Mile Beach is an award winning public beach. There is nothing better than walking along this beautiful beach and stopping at a local restaurant or beach bar. Who doesn't love enjoying your favorite drink with your toes in the sand?
- Scuba Diving and Snorkeling - The Cayman Islands are one of the top diving destinations in the world. The waters average 77 degrees fahrenheit making the waters very comfortable to explore. Grand Cayman has great diving options to explore sunken ships, reefs or "The Wall". "The Wall" that surrounds the islands can reach depths up to 3,000 feet. Grand Cayman also offers some great snorkeling that you can access right off the shore. On one of our trips, we were able to snorkel right off the shore and swim with sea turtles. It was an amazing experience I will never forget. They also have some great reefs that are just a small boat ride off the shore. One of those reefs in located in Stingray City. Our guide located a green eel hiding in the coral and was able to get the eel to come out of the coral so we could see how big it was. I am not a fan of eels but seeing it in the wild was a cool experience.
- Exploring the island on your own - On each trip I have taken to Grand Cayman, I always have a car to explore the island on my own. One of my favorite things to do is to explore the many dining options available on the island. Having a car makes this much easier since the island is not known for all inclusive resorts . Grand Cayman has a great food scene! When my clients work with me, I give them a list of all my favorites.
- Stingray City - This a popular destination where travelers can get up close to touch and feed stingrays in the wild. This was a really neat experience. Stepping off the of the boat and having them swim by my legs was a crazy feeling but after I was in the water for a while I felt more comfortable touching them and having them rub up against my legs. Often tours will include snorkeling as an add on option too.
There is a lot more to see and do on the island than what I touched upon here. When my clients work with me, I find out what is important for them to see on their trip and I make recommendations to meet those needs.
